About NewfyPoos

A NewfyPoo, otherwise referred to as a Newfoundland-Poodle mix, is quickly becoming one of the most popular designer breeds out there.

Newfypoo Generations

In order to understand the different generations of this breed, it’s important to know the different labeling letters used when describing them. The letters F1, F1B, F1BB, and F2 indicate the different combinations used in breeding:

F1 Generation

The F1 generation is created by mixing one purebred Poodle with one purebred Newfoundland. The resulting puppies are 50% Poodle and 50% Newfoundland. These dogs tend to have more energy than their parents and require regular exercise.

F1B Generation

An F1B generation dog is bred from an F1 Newfypoo and a poodle. This mixture results in puppies that are 75% Poodle and 25% Newfoundland. Due to their higher percentage of poodle genes, these dogs often have less shedding than other generations of Newfy-poos.

F1BB Generation

An F1BB generation dog is bred from an already existing F1B mixture. Puppies produced from this combination will be 87.5% Poodle and 12.5% Newfoundland. These dogs are ideal for people who suffer from severe allergies but still want a large breed pup that loves cuddles!

F2 Generation

The fourth generation of Newfypoos is the F2 generation, which is created by breeding two existing NewfyPoo mixtures (either two F1s or two F1Bs). These puppies will receive either 62.5% Poodle genes or 37.5% Newfoundland genes, depending on which parents were used in breeding them.

History

The NewfyPoo is a relatively new breed of dog, having only been around for a couple of decades. It is a mix between the Newfoundland and Poodle breeds, both of which have long histories as working dogs.

The Newfoundland was originally bred to be a working dog for Canadian fishermen in Newfoundland. At the same time, the Poodle was developed as an elegant companion and water retriever.

Grooming

Bathing 

Since NewfyPoos have thick, double coats prone to tangling, they should only be bathed every few months (or when absolutely necessary). When you give them a bath, ensure you rinse them thoroughly, so soap residue doesn’t remain on their skin.

A good rule of thumb is to shampoo once and then rinse three times before applying conditioner. And don’t forget to use warm water—not hot!

Once finished, pat dry with towels and finish up with a blow dryer set on low heat—but remember not to leave it too close for too long; this can burn their skin. 

Ears 

Ears should be checked frequently for signs of wax buildup or inflammation. If your pup has excess wax or dirt in there, clean the inner ear flap with cotton balls soaked in vet-approved solutions (never use Q-tips!).

Make sure not to go too deep into the ear canal as this could cause damage, and make sure that the area is completely dry before letting them shake it off! 

Nails 

Your pup’s nails should be trimmed every month or so (depending on how quickly they grow). Start by gently pushing back the fur near each nail so you can see where it ends—this will help prevent trimming them too short.

Use clippers specifically designed for dogs, and always cut away from the quick (the pink area at the base of each claw). Finally, file down any sharp edges with an emery board after trimming is complete.        

Teeth
