History

Miniature Australian Shepherds have been around since the late 1960s when they were first bred by ranchers in California. The original breeders wanted to create a smaller version of the full-sized Australian Shepherd breed. This was done by selectively breeding smaller Australian Shepherds. As a result, the Miniature Australian Shepherd was born! 

The Miniature Australian Shepherd gained popularity in the 1970s due to its intelligence and loyalty. By the 1980s, they had become even more popular as people discovered their playful nature and affectionate personalities—not to mention their small size! The American Kennel Club officially recognized the Miniature Australian Shepherd as its own separate breed in 2015. 

 Appearance

The Miniature Australian Shepherd is a smaller version of the regular Australian Shepherd, featuring a body that is slightly longer than its short legs. In addition, these pups boast almond-shaped eyes that come in different colors, such as brown, amber, and blue.

Coat
